| Put some thought into answering the following questions pertaining to the plastic processing problems you experience. It should give you an idea if ExtraPurge - XT™ Plastic Purging Compound will help improve your productivity. |
Why would I use a Plastic Purging Compound?
How do I identify where a purge compound could help improve my production profitability, throughput rates, and quality?
How can I reduce cross contamination and scrap? |
Dark to light color changes & material changeovers.
How many of your color or resin transitions take more than 15 - 20 minutes? Measure the time elapsed and the pounds of scrap from the last good production parts to the first good production with the new resin or color. If the answer is more than 15 - 20 minutes ExtraPurge - XT™ purging compond will help improve your productivity.
Start Ups and Shut Downs
Do you typically lose time and good production material because of black specks or cross contamination? If you do, chances are you should be using a purging compound on shutdown.
Black specks
Do you have reoccurring issues with black specks that result in system tear down to manually clean your machine? Using ExtraPurge - XT™ purging compound on a systematic preventive maintenance program will help eliminate that costly and laborious process. |

| What types of Plastic Purging Compounds are available on the market today and what are the benefits of each? There are three types of purging compounds agvailable on the market today they are as follows: |
Chemical Plastic Purging Compounds
Abrasive Plastic Purging Compounds
Physical Plastic Purging Compounds
RBM POLYMERS |
Chemical Plastic Purging Compounds - Such as ExtraPurge - XT™ have internal chemical reactions which are activated by the heat of your plastic processing equipment. This reaction which is harmless to the environment, you and the materials of construction of your plastic processing equipment releases a series of complex chemical reactions which vigorously attacks residual resin.
These carefully timed reactions degrade the residual thermoplastic by lowering its molecular weight. This is accomplished by safely breaking down the plastic at its molecular level, lowering its viscosity making it easier to flush from the system. We are not cracking atoms so this a safe process to be performing in your machine and in your facility
ExtraPurge - XT™ Chemical plastic purging compound also lifts up and removes loosened degraded carbonized plastic, colorants and additives that may be stuck in negative flow areas of your system. When the chemical reaction is finished ExtraPurge - XT™ then breaks itself and its carrier resin down allowing easy removal from the system. ExtraPurge - XT™ can then be disposed of as an inert mineral filled thermoplastic resin. |

| Abrasive Plastic Purging Compounds - Cracked Acrylic, PolyCarbonate, large particulate Minerals or Glass Filled materials like nylon or PolyPropylene, commercial bathroom scouring powders and even walnut shells are found in "Abrasive" purge compounds. These types of Purges "Scour" the contamination mostly from the surface; rarely do they deep clean to metal of the screw, barrel and dies. But when they do they may also "scour" the surface scratching the dies, screw and barrel, and potentially plugging hot runners. They can leave significant cross contamination and will not clean by lifting off the contamination. |

| Physical Plastic Purging Compounds – Typically are a blend of High Viscosity Resins that provide a push similar to everyone getting out and pushing a car that has been stuck in the snow. The thought process is that the “stiff” resin will shove away everything in its path in reality they will only push away the easy to remove contamination. An unfortunate side effect is that the very purge compound you used to clean may end up impossible to remove causing cross contamination. Surprisingly you may find that the best way to remove a Physical Purge Compound is with a Chemical Purge Compound such as ExtraPurge - XT™. |
